March 24, 2007. Hank Hit by Bus.
Hey, we're back. A popular buzz-phrase in
corporate America is "Lessons Learned." I'll tell ya what my Lessons Learned were from
being thrown under the bus in our current podcast. Also, you can find out some things about bar code technology and
what little things a certain Canadian-born VP does to make Wasp Technologies successful.
February 15, 2007. Fan Clubbing?
Yup, it's been quiet here, but not quiet desperation. I've been a-workin' hard to try t'read between
the lines of some of the emails we've received. One, which came in early January, from an
alleged "Craig" in Nova Scotia states, "I have totally enjoyed all of your shows. They are highly informative and entertaining.
Through you I've even contacted several of your guests for relevant info for my biz and projects. It has been great." Well, by the time Doug and I's
heads shrunk last week, I get an email that says that radio personality Lon Dorsey wants to
communicate with me via Yahoo! Instant Messenger. I knew I should've been suspicious when "her" email handle
came up "optimusmax@hotmail.com". After I recovered from that embarrassment, a high school student
emailed me, wantin' to know what it's like to be a filmmaker. I told this polite gentleman that he has me
mistaken for someone famous. I politely referred
him to the Dean Augustin (5/13/06) podcast and cried in my ex-spresso.
November 11, 2006. The Dean of Digital Filmmaking.
Dean Augustin's (5/13/06) production company, The Good Fight Digital Motion Pictures, has teamed up with Brightcove technologies in offering
a selection of Dean's films for rent...OR...an option to burn...and we don't mean the kind of burn you get by sittin' in the
hot Texas sun too long. Dean's documentaries have chalked up the prizes at numerous festivals and they have the distinguishing characteristic
of being heady and salt-of-the-earth at the same time. Dean truly lures you in and takes you on an educational ride while providing
just enough touchy-feely to help you sympathize with the subjects at hand. You can check out these downloads on
his website--and online screenings and sneak peeks of his new features as well.
November 6, 2006. ¡Vive Perú!
I had a chance to review Maestro Miguel's (Episode #13)
CD release "Alma del Perú" (order here). I gotta tell ya, my taste is pretty ecelctic. If
you run your fingers over my Rockford Fosgate, you might hear New Model Army followed by Johnny Cash followed by Shostakovich. I genuinely liked this
soothing Latin repertoire because it reminded me of life as a boy, sitting in the den, in front of the record player and listenin' to
Percy Faith. Plus I liked the seductive girls on Percy's album covers. If you're nostalgic for Xavier Cugat and Desi Arnaz, give the CD a listen.
October 12, 2006. Those Crazy Limeys!
Hey I admit I'm addicted to the DrudgeReport. Yes, I let Drudge do all the surfing for me. If you're an Internet maven, you've probably already seen
the link to the iPod Mob in
the London Daily Mail. If you haven't, you oughta check out the latest performance-art craze to hit the Mutha Country.
If anyone in the Dallas area has ever been in on such a rare event--a sort of spastic Cirque du Soleil as near as I can
tell--give us a shout. We might get ya a sound-bite on the show.
October 10, 2006. Internet Killed the Audio Dudes.
It's not the highest in quality--it's almost conspiratorial in its execution. But believe it or not, it was once
on TV. Do we like what we do? Are we on the verge of something great? Do I sound like I know what I'm talkin' about?
Podcasting is making news, and it's not just about the price of an iPod. Check us out on TV. And then
cycle back through our list of guests for more cool high-profile interviews.
September 23, 2006. Mom, I Wanna Be a Rock Star.
Every once in awhile, y'get a guest that just makes ya cool. We had the unique experience of having a locally exclusive interview with a recently-signed-to-a-big-label band
that one of our video associates found through MySpace.com. I think I just heard the over-30 members of our listenership roll their eyes. But that sound was dubbed over
by the sound of thousands of teenagers screaming in ecstasy. We're working on the edits now, but while I'm not one much for
what the Alternative crowd listens to these days, I had to admire the je ne sais quoi of this young and talented group that I can
only say is a little bit Ramones, a little bit of Aerosmith and a pinch of Hank Jr. Stay tuned.
September 11, 2006. Podcast Deflation?
Tomorrow we will know. Once again, just when you think Apple Computers is kaput, the management decides to post a big ol' announcement.
Doug highly recommends the following podcast from MacCast. And no, for you Windows-a-philes, it's not a
Scottish fishin' show! I'll give it a listen when I get tired of the football chatter at work. As a point-counter-point, here's a link off the DrudgeReport from the Limeys about the
latest "rise and fad" of Apple Computer in the UK Guardian.
August 30, 2006. The Maestro's Release.
The Maestro, whom we just interviewed for--I dunno, Episode 13 or so (I don't have 'em in front of me)--his record label, Filarmonika, just released a CD called
"Alma del Perú," a collection of--you guessed it--Peruvian folk songs. Let me tell ya, from my experience watchin' his direction, Maestro Harth-Bedoya does
nothing half-assed, and his special skill is making the musical unknown familiar. I'm guessin' this is an awesome piece of work. 'Xcuse me while
I stop what I'm doin' and order me a copy. I'll send ya a review in when I get me a-chancet.
August 29, 2006. Augustin Wins SPIFFY.
Our special guest from May 13, Dean J. Augustin, has joined 25 other films from across the world by winning acceptance to SPIFF, or the South Padre Island Film Festival.
Augustin did it this time with his feature "The Range", about the maverick Dallas radio station. Augustin's feature features some cool tunes overlaid on a patina of
powerful radio personalities. Augustin, as you may recall, loves digital media, so jump onto the technological bandwidth and order his movie online. More info can be found
at The Good Fight.
August 11, 2006. Now They're Letting Geeks Be on Television.
I heard from my co-producer's friend's brother that the PIMediaPro/Fastcasters guys were on TV in Dallas-Fort Worth tonight.
If you are arriving here this fine Friday evening after watching, welcome! If you are a fan of Miguel Harth-Bedoya, the double-hemispheric
(see if you can figure out the double-entendre) guest you see on the segment...well, his podcast's not up yet. We don't
have an exec producer to enforce a deadline, so we go to our day jobs instead.
We thank Scott Sayres from FOX-4 and Trish Ciaravino (as well as the Maestro, of course) from
the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra for their efforts. We had a blast. Be listening for the podcast to release in a few short days, y'all!
July 31, 2006. HD: Hominus Descat. I.e., Men Describing HD.
Oh, I probably should've told ya sooner that we were going to have Karl Meisenbach from Mark Cuban's HDNet on the podcast, but we
were so busy pricing plasma screens, we plum forgot. If you're anything like me, you don't know HD-ready from HD-in-a-hole-in-the-ground. Remarkably,
Karl explains it nicely and neatly and now I know it's true. I can't afford to PRODUCE anything in HD. However, I might be able to afford to see
Vince Young play for the Titans in HD, and that's a step further than I was five years ago. Soon to be a PIMediaPro favorite,
the interview with Karl is located via subscription or via the Archive page.
July 17, 2006. You Heard It Here First, Folks.
Our friend Dean Augustin, whom you might remember from podcast #8, has released his new digital motion picture, The Range. You can see it
released at the Granada Theatre in Dallas, July 23-27 (View the previews). It's the tale of a maverick radio station
and the maverick who runs it. If'n you like "Americana" music--that is, country music that hasn't been
"Nashvillized"--you'll like this documentary on one Dallas-area station that has held its own.
July 15, 2006. Start Spreadin' the News...
To paraphrase Victor Kiam, we like podcastin' so much, we bought the company. As you might expect, PIMediaPro can't run without a parent company.
Inspired by the level of response and a level of interest, Fastcasters was born. If you like what you see--pardon, if you like what you HEAR, and
are considering hiring talent and expertise for podcasting services, give us a shout. And check out our website at Fastcasters.com.
No solicitors, please. Or, if you're one of them news junkies but you're kinda tired of stories from the Middle East, you can
read the press release! It'll make our day!
July 6, 2006. You've Got a Little Something on Your Face There...EEEEEEEWWWWW! Gross!
Podcast 11 is posted. This week's well-balanced Renaissance Dude is Jim Minton, a guy who's spent several years in the creative arts biz and has a great client list to show
for it: Anheuser-Busch, A. G. Edwards and Master P! Plus, we've got two installments of Renaissance Man! Wait 'til you hear what Megaphone finds in some bear poop!
You can subscribe via iTunes or
download the podcast.
June 26, 2006. Listeners, Where Art Thou?
We've got Podcast #10 out and boy, is it ever ironic! Anyway, we can explain the irony later. As for you listeners, if'n you've got a project, business or podcast
that needs some FREE PUBLICITY, local (D/FW) boy made good and TV reporter Jeff Crilley tells ya how to get your voice heard. He even makes a prediction regarding Doug & Hank's podcast.
Stay tuned this summer to see if the prophesy is fulfilled.
June 12, 2006. I am Texan, Hear Me Stammer.
Our second bizcast correlates with a short piece for business consultant Steve Harvill, specially produced for his website. Harvill demonstrates via green screen and After Effects, the unique and fast-paced changes in our connected world. It begs the
question, "Are you ready for the small screen? No really, the really small screen." You can see Mr. Harvill ("Something to Think About," Ep. 9), the guy behind the
voices of Sholmo and Megaphone ("Hank") and the guy behind the "I Never Knew I Had a Voice for Radio but Works Just Fine for Podcasting" voice ("Doug") all in 2:19 for Vidcast #2!
May 31, 2006. PIMediaPro in the News.
Look, Ma. We're on TV! Okay, maybe not TV, but we're in the news. Thanks to a small fee and a big connection to various media outlets, our podcast about the media can be found...in
the media. Remember Alphaville's "Big in Japan"? To paraphrase, we will wait here for our download tonight...when we're big in Ohio!
May 23, 2006. PIMediaPro: The Vid-cast.
Hey, hey. Check it out. This is what we're talkin' about. The fusion of creative and technical. We're excited. Check out Doug's slick lookin' compressed video file showcasing some
of Hank's fine creative work. But don't laugh at Fickle Weed. He's serious about the Dharma Monkeys.
May 4, 2006. Filmmaker Special.
We know we've got a coupla good shows comin' up for y'all, because we were in the studio when we recorded the guests. Hee hee. Anyway, indie film makers will prick up their ears to
hear good solid advice from writer-producer-documentarian Dean Augustin ("The Range" "The Secret Journal of Benny Travis") and great stories from writer-producer-adventurer Michael Daniel ("Walking with Freedom"). All's
we can say is, stay tuned! Unless you're like Mr. Daniel and you're walking your way up the West Coast with nothin' but a backpack and a Canon GL2. Then you'll have a little trouble
downloading.
May 3, 2006. Hank's Done-Got Braggin' Rights.
Yup. PIMediaPro's own Hank earned a Bronze Award in the
"Experimental Comedy Short Under Six Minutes" category at this year's WorldFest in Houston. The sheer volume of entrants is mind-bogglin'. The REMI Award was bestowed upon his production
"Hanque presents a Short Philm on Poast-Modernizm," originally aired last summer for Park Springs Bible Church in Arlington, Texas. PIMedia's sound technician
Patrick Biediger provided the music for the short, Adrian Littlefield (the male sound-bite voice talent you hear on Podcast #7) starred in the feature and Jorge Arbelaez (ref.
Podcast #5) provided the camerawork and direction. If you listen carefully next week, you can hear Hank's ego inflate as you listen to Podcast #8. Check out the short.
April 26, 2006. PIMediaPro Posts New Posting Schedule...Soon
The struggle will soon be over. We realize you have come back and not seen the regular update. PIMediaPro is
experimenting with a modified format and is due to post any day now. We just have to get our file back from Singapore. This week's
show features Aaron Hensell, head of DellaMark Technologies. Aaron discusses with Doug & Hank his simple rules for success in
the web design-development-hosting business.
From this point on,
we will be doing our best to post every two weeks. What day of that week we choose is yet to be determined. We could be like your payroll people at
your corporate job and just post twice a month, thereby cheating you out of two podcasts every year.
Angry? Good! . Email us!
April 25, 2006. Caulfield Catches Wry Comment from Producer
What can we say about the video-to-web revolution? Are you tired of hearing the word
"revolution"? It's almost like it's 1954 and all those radio personalities are jumping to television. Enough of
the nostalgia already:
It's 2006 and you're an established video pro. Your clients are asking you about the Web.
They want something in Flash! What does that mean?? Flash has so many applications and uses. It scares some. It
motivates others. Well, you can stop arguing. Our researchers have found an online article
by Holden Caulfield's lost cousin William (posted 10/05) on macromedia.com that helps clarify. Just remember, anything he doesn't catch,
we can. Just give us
a shout.
April 22, 2006. PIMediaPro Seeks WOMEN.
Seriously, we're both married here, and not to each other. We're actually looking for smart, funny women who
might also be geeks to be guests on our show. Heck, if you're reading this and you're a girl, you just might be qualified. Just contact Hank at
or phone Fastcasters at 817.846.8455. Thanky.
